We may have heard that to clean clothes better, we should use hot water. But how hot should the water be? We do know that hot water may damage or fade some clothing materials. Sometimes even shrink them (YAY!!! We have another thing to blame when those jeans start to get tight). So it’s always best to refer to the manufacturer’s guide on the tags of our clothing. If your favorite piece of clothing doesn’t have that very helpful tag, you will probably play the Russian roulette of garment care.
But in this time where Covid-19 is constantly hounding our minds, as much as cold water may be suitable for some type of fabrics, we really must try to use hot water in washing our clothes. We don’t want to possibly walk into contaminated air and bring it home through our clothing. We need hot water and detergent to effectively remove the deadly virus. As advised by WHO (World Health Organization), water temperature should be between 60-90 degrees Celsius. Most front load washing machines have the temperature option. But this is not the most common choice for most households for a couple of reasons. One, it’s pricier than the top load washing machines. Two, it uses more energy…so again it’s going to take another hit at our budgetary concerns.
However, it is good to know that these front loading machines are readily available in your standard laundry shop. You don’t even have to worry about it’s maintenance and the laundromat staff will take care of the legwork when it comes to temperature control and all the bells and whistles that come along with having your laundry professionally done (just make sure you advise them accordingly if you have garments which are extremely sensitive… just refer to the care tag). Better yet, during this time, try not to use clothing with fabrics that are sensitive to hot water washing. We just need to sacrifice a little for the safety of our whole household. If you are still iffy about which laundry shop to choose, just have someone pickup laundry for you…download Swosh. We ensure our laundry partners are aware of basic safety care and standards. We take away the chore of having to ask yourself: “Where is the laundry shop near me; Where are the laundry places near me or What are the laundry services near me?” No more guessing on how hot the water should be, just book and leave the rest to us.
